It may be socially acceptable to believe in God, especially during the Christmas season, but to actually believe that God is really real and then to go so far as to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” in a Mark 12:30 kind of way is generally seen as "taking things too far". It is seen as excessive not only by people in the world, but also by many within the church. Yet to read the Bible, participate in church programs, and avoid at least the socially unacceptable sins—can this really be all that Jesus had in mind when he said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” John 10:10b?
I am praying that this Christmas we each ask our Father for a gift he promises to give his children: the gift of falling more deeply in love with the God who loves us! “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11 Go ahead--ask! God longs to give you more of himself.
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:15-21
