6th Grade Curriculum Continued
Writing: Literary forms: Narrative stories, experiential stories, fictional stories, personal letters. cards, notes, diaries. journals, recounts, rhymes, retellings, poems, plays, biographies and autobiographies, tall tales, comics, personal essays, narrative essays.
Informational, task-oriented and/or technical writing: Labels, captions, recounts, answers to questions, questions to answers, instructions, learning logs, reports, book reviews and reports, posters and brochures, directions/procedures, paraphrase, expository essays, (explain about and why) field notes, newspaper and magazine articles, summaries.
Science: Minerals, rocks, the earth's structure, weather and erosion and soil. Science is project oriented.
Social Studies: Golden age of the Orient: Japan, China, India Mosaics and Minarets of the Byzantine Empire, Shadow of the Middle Ages. A comprehensive look at the Roman Empire Social studies is project oriented.
Band: Beginning or intermediate band is required. Strings are available as an option. Chorus is also available
Art: Class offerings will include the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, color theory, drawing, perspective.
